Beginning Running

Runner's Forum -- for Beginners and Others

I did it to myself!

After all my writing about how imprtant it is to stretch the ITB, I ignored it for a few easy runs. I'm good about the ITB stretch after long runs or really hard runs, but then I started to miss a few of those too.

Then, one day recently, I noticed my left hip flexor was hurting when I ran uphill. So, of course, I went back to stretching.

A couple of days ago, after a pace run, I was enjoying feeling a good stretch in the tight hip flexor when it suddenly went into spasm -- ouch!!! So yesterday, an easy day, I ran extra easily in the hope that the pain wouldn't bother me. It was fine except for the uphills, where I could still feel it.

Today was a tempo run, so I decided that it was time to get serious and NOT run for a day. Tomorrow is another day off, so that will give me a break before the weekend. Saturday is scheduled for an easy day, with a long run Sunday.

I'll see how it goes Saturday, then decide whether to run Sunday or take a couple of days off again. I'll keep you updated on what happened.

How I miss those runs, though :-(

PS: I hope you all took today off for Thanksgiving and ate lots of turkey!

I can't believe that I left it so long to find out the cause of my problem! I'm having physical therapy twice a week now, and it's definitely improving. There's some more information about it in my comments section in reply to a member's experience with hip problem.
